graduating class of Spartanburg Community College s Early College program.
All 23 students completed their degree requirements and graduated from SCC on May
3, and they will graduate from their respective schools later this month.
All 23 have been accepted into at least one four-year college or university, and $885,000
in scholarship money has been awarded, according to a resolution passed by County
Council.
County Councilman Bob Walker read the resolution and presented certificates to the
students.
The program seeks to graduate students with a high school diploma and the first two
years of transferable college credit and an associate in arts degree in preparation
for high growth, high demand jobs of the 21st century, the resolution states.
The students also put in more than 2,849 community service hours over the past four
years.
Six of the students were invited to join the Beta Sigma Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa
Honor Society at the community college. Honored were Lindsay Cagle, Kira Gee, Robbie
Srey, Teknique Stephens, Jonathan Mullett, Akeah Allen, Aleah Allen, Erandy Barrera,
Linnea Rogers, Brooke McKinney, Yolanda Lopez, Dulce Labra, Elizabeth Klingensmith,
Ruslan Matev, Lynze Gosnell, Victoria Diaz-Jamie, Melissa Huntley, Daniela Arroyo,
Breana Dogan, Amiya Ballenger, Sarah Riggin, Ashanti James and Logan Black.
The program is a partnership between Spartanburg Community College and all seven Spartanburg
school districts.
