grants. In this role, Sexton is responsible for planning, writing, securing and managing
all grant funding for the college and the SCC Foundation.
Sexton brings extensive grant writing and nonprofit management experience to SCC including
previous positions as executive director for both the Hub City Farmers Market and
the Spartanburg County Historical Association. Her leadership experience in the Upstate
community also includes the Leadership Spartanburg Class of 2015, the Riley Center
s Diversity Leadership Institute Class of 2018, co-chair for the Road to Better Health
Obesity Prevention committee, and service on committees for the Spartanburg Young
Professionals and the Tourism Advisory committee with the Spartanburg Area Chamber
of Commerce.
Caroline is a tremendous addition to the SCC community with her talents and skills
in writing, submitting and managing grants and her passion for the Upstate. We are
thrilled that she is a member of our team, explained Bea Walters Smith, executive
director of Advancement and the SCC Foundation.
I am honored to join the dynamic team at Spartanburg Community College, said Sexton.
The impact SCC has on the Upstate community through increased educational and workforce
development opportunities is tangible and I am excited to partner with the faculty,
staff and students to continue to grow that impact.
A South Carolina native, Sexton holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Furman University
and a Master of Arts in public history from the University of South Carolina. She
resides in Spartanburg with her husband, Jacob, and their daughter, Eleanor (age two).
In 2018, SCC was awarded over 20 grants for a total of $1,638,066.
