It s time once again for Spring Fling. The popular outdoor street festival, which
has been an Upstate institution since 1978, will be held Friday through Sunday in
downtown Spartanburg and will offer a wide array of entertainment for the entire family.
We cannot believe Spring Fling is (this) weekend, said Mandy Merck, special events
manager for the city of Spartanburg. It just rolls around so fast; it s like a blink
of an eye that it s here again.
While the footprint for the festival which runs along Main and Broad streets from
Converse Street and Daniel Morgan Avenue and along Church Street from Kennedy to St.
John streets will remain the same as in recent years, Merck said that some new features
have been added.
Children will have plenty to do.
Spring Fling can be especially fun for kids, and there will be a Family Fun Zone featuring
an array of rides and inflatables throughout the weekend.
There will also be plenty of activities that will allow children to explore the world
of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math).
Spartanburg Community College is helping us with (the STEAM-related activities),
and BMW will come out with their robotics, Merck said.
Spring Fling will also include a 300-foot zip line for all ages, along with the Wall
Street Game Lane, which features giant-sized versions of such games as chess, checkers
and more.
