History and Purpose
The Cyber Patriot program was developed in 2009 by the US Air Force in to promote
interest in cybersecurity. The Cyber Patriot program prepares high school students
to compete in a cyber-defense competition once a year. The competition involves students
downloading a corrupted virtual system image; and then challenges students to harden
up the system by identifying vulnerabilities without compromising service to the legitimate
users. Local winners compete at the state level and then state winners advance to
a national competition where they can win national recognition and scholarships. More
