As communities continue to grow, the demand for goods will increase and more truck drivers will be needed to keep supply chains moving. Hit the road with Spartanburg Community College's Truck Driver Training Program for careers in the truck driving industry to help meet the fast growing needs for qualified professional truck drivers. 

With an almost 95% placement rate for its graduates, SCC’s CDL program provides a straight path into the workforce. Students can walk right off campus and onto the workforce floor, full trained and prepared for the job ahead.

 

Registration Information

Note: A CLP (Commercial Learner's Permit), a valid SC driver's license, and DOT physical are required prior to enrollment in class.

  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A 

    Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A is a 4 week course for a total of 160 instructional hours and after successful completion of the course, will qualify you to drive a tractor trailer. The training is conducted on either a 10-speed Manual Transmission, or an Automatic Transmission Tractor Trailer, pulling a 53-foot Trailer.  The program includes all Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) mandated requirements, and at successful conclusion of the course, on-site SCDMV CDL testing by a 3rd Party Examiner is offered.  Job Placement assistance is available.

    Cost: $5,000 - Tuition/scholarship funds are available through SC WINS.

  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B

    Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B is a 2-week course for a total of 80 instructional hours and after successful completion of the course, will qualify you to drive a Class B Vehicle.  Training is conducted on a manual 8-speed tri-axle Dump Truck and the program includes all Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) mandated requirements, and at successful conclusion of the course, on-site SCDMV CDL testing by a 3rd Party Examiner is offered.  Job Placement assistance is available.

    Cost: $3,000 - Tuition/scholarship funds are available through SC WINS.

  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B + Backhoe Loader

    Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B + is a 3-week course for a total of 120 instructional hours.   Training is conducted on a manual 8-speed tri-axle Dump Truck and the program includes all Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) mandated requirements.  After successful completion of the Class B Dump Truck portion of the course (2-weeks), you will be tested on-site by a SCDMV Certified CDL 3rd Party Examiner.  Job Placement assistance is available.

    In the Backhoe/Loader Operations portion of the Class B+ Course, you will be presented with types and designs of backhoe excavators, operating techniques of the backhoe/front bucket loader, and the use of the machine for digging and loading. Setting up the backhoe safely is emphasized.  “Seat time” activities cover safe operating procedures, walk-around inspections, operator controls and compartment, proper startup/shut-down procedures, basic operating procedures based on industry requirements so an individual can develop skills to operate equipment safely and proficiently.

  • Hazardous Materials CDL Endorsement

    This 8-hour Classroom Course and Testing will provide you with the information needed to pass the required ELDT Hazmat knowledge test to obtain your CDL hazmat endorsement.  After successful completion of the course, you will take a written test, and after successful inly passing the exam, your information will be entered in the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.

  • Training for those wishing to upgrade their Class B CDL license to Class A CDL. Instructional training will be provided in compliance with ELDT regulations. Preparation for and administration of SCDMV required Pre-trip, Skills and Road Test will be conducted at the completion of the course.

    Length of the Course is 3 Weeks (98 Hours)

    Prerequisite per SCDMV [90-120(C.1.b)]:

    Proof of EDLT Theory Class A to Class B Upgrade

    Cost of Program: $3000
