Rain or Shine, We Golfed for Good! The Annual Chaser’s Cup Golf Tournament
At Spartanburg Community College (SCC), we believe that great things happen when our community comes together. That’s exactly what took place at the third annual Chaser’s Cup Golf Tournament, hosted by the SCC Foundation at the beautiful Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Even though the weather didn’t exactly cooperate, spirits were high, and nearly 120 golfers came ready to have fun and support a great cause. Rain or shine, our community showed up in a big way.
The day began with a delicious breakfast and a special gift for every golfer: a free personalized cooler—perfect for future outings! After fueling up, players headed out to the course, excited to swing their clubs and enjoy the beautiful (though rainy) greens.
Golfers played through the day, aiming for fun and glory—and some definitely hit the mark! A huge congratulations goes to the winning team from Lockhart Power: Seth Parker, Lee Littlejohn, and Wes Vassey. These golf champs earned the honor of displaying the shiny Chaser’s Cup trophy at their organization for the entire year—until next year’s tournament, that is! We also had some special awards to celebrate individual achievements:
- Closest to the Pin: Lyman Hamrick (SCC Commissioner) and Robyn Rogers (Quackenbush Architects)
- Longest Drive: Jeff Williams (One Spartanburg) and Amber Kreger (SCC Dean of Enrollment Management)
Of course, no event is complete without great food—and we had some of the best! A big thanks goes to the Hub City Spartanburgers for providing lunch that hit the spot. And a shout-out to Lockhart Power for keeping everyone hydrated with drinks throughout the day.
One of the most inspiring parts of the day came when Tasha Marshall, a two-time Foundation scholarship recipient and proud SCC alum, took the stage. Her story reminded everyone why we do what we do: to support students in reaching their dreams. Her journey is proof that when we give, we help others rise.
The fun didn’t stop on the fairway. We also hosted a silent auction, filled with exciting items for people to bid on. Every dollar raised—whether from tournament entries, sponsorships, or auction bids—went straight to the SCC Foundation’s Impact Fund. We’re incredibly thankful to AFL, BV Power Alpha, and Colonial Pipeline, our Chaser Champion Sponsors, for their generous support. Without them and many others, this event wouldn't have been possible.
Thanks to the amazing support of our players, donors, and community, we raised just shy of $65,000! That money will help students by providing emergency relief funds, scholarships, and resources they need to succeed in college.
We were honored to have several Foundation Board members at the event, including Richard Gibson, Joe Landsverk, Jeff Gill, and Daniel Hart. Their hard work behind the scenes and continued leadership help move SCC forward every single day.
And despite the torrential rainfall, most players stayed to the very end. That’s how you
At SCC, we believe in keeping doors open and opportunities available for everyone. Thanks to the SCC Foundation, our students have access to more than just education. They receive the support they need—whether it’s help with tuition, food, books, or personal emergencies.
Through events like the Chaser’s Cup, we raise money and build connections that change lives. We don’t just help students earn a degree—we help them build a future.
